Privacy Policy
Effective December 1, 2026 · Last updated October 1, 2026
friend.radio ("the app", "we") is made by Jay Pham. This policy explains what we collect, why, who helps us run the app, and your choices. Questions: privacy@friendradio.io.
What we collect
| Information | Why we need it |
|---|---|
| Account: an Apple user ID, and the email and name Apple shares if you allow it (the email may be a private relay address) | To sign you in with Sign in with Apple and contact you about your account |
| Profile: the name you choose, an avatar color, your age range, your time zone and your preferred music app | To show you to your circle, apply age rules, reset your day at local midnight, and open songs in your app |
| Your activity: the songs you share (the link plus title, artist and artwork details), likes, your circle connections, your share link, nudges, blocks and reports | To run the app: your Radio, your circle, your Library, and keeping the community safe |
| Device: a push notification token | To send the notifications you turn on (likes, people joining your circle, nudges) |
| Diagnostics: crash reports and basic usage events (for example "pick posted"), not linked to your name | To fix bugs and understand whether the app works |
What we don't collect: your contacts (when you invite friends, you pick contacts with Apple's picker and the message is sent from your phone; we never receive your address book), your location, your listening history, or your passwords for music services.
Who can see what
- Your circle sees your name, avatar and your pick for the day.
- Friends of friends may see your pick's song with the name of the friend it came through, but never your name. You can turn this off in Settings.
- Likes are private: only the person who shared a song sees who liked it.
- There are no public profiles and no search. People can only join your circle through your link.
Who helps us run the app
We use these service providers. They process data only to provide their service to us.
| Provider | What they do | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, sign-in and server functions | The information listed above |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple, push notifications, app distribution, and song artwork and previews (iTunes Search) | Your Apple ID sign-in, push token, and song titles for artwork lookup |
| Odesli (song.link) | Turns a song link into links for every music app | The song link you share, not who shared it |
| Spotify, YouTube, SoundCloud | Look up the title and artist of a song link you share | The song link you share, from our server, not who shared it |
| Cloudflare | Hosts friendradio.io | Standard web request data when you open a friendradio.io link |
We don't sell or share your personal information for advertising, and we don't use it to build advertising profiles.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account exists. When you delete your account, your profile, picks, likes, connections and device tokens are deleted right away, and your Sign in with Apple authorization is revoked. Copies in encrypted backups are removed as the backups roll over, within 30 days. Reports about other people's content may be kept for up to 1 year to handle safety issues.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your account: Circle → Settings → Delete account.
- Turn off friends-of-friends sharing: Circle → Settings.
- Notifications: turn them off any time in iPhone Settings.
- Access or correct your data: email privacy@friendradio.io and we'll respond within 30 days.
- California residents have the right to know, delete and correct personal information and to not be discriminated against for using these rights. We don't sell or share personal information as defined by California law.
Children and teens
friend.radio is for people 13 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13; if we learn we have, we delete it. In states that require it, people under 18 need a parent's or guardian's consent through Apple, and parents can revoke it.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and stored with access rules that limit each person to what they're allowed to see. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach that affects you, we'll tell you as required by law.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
